Textured acrylic on canvas

As an emerging abstract painter living and working outside of Washington, D.C. in Potomac, Maryland, I use nature as a vehicle for my creativity. I believe art should be tactile - drawing the collector into the piece itself in order to evoke an exchange of feelings and memories. In this case, "Il Pellicano" is a textural homage to the pelican -- an animal who knows how to assess an opportunity when they see one. They find a perch where they can observe with intent and patience -- waiting for the exact right moment to catch their food. As the pelican in this painting sits upon his perch, he is astutely observing the world around us; a lesson we could all learn from in life's often frantic pace.
