When I look for subjects to paint, I am drawn to and seek out that “moment of light”- the quality of light in the early morning and dusk that illuminates and transforms ordinary things like rocks or buildings, turning them into something extraordinary. I also am captivated by bursts of color in the landscape that often seem to present themselves, like a gift, and try to incorporate that same element of surprise in my painting. Hopefully, the energy and emotion I feel when painting is expressed through the layering of colors and my mark-making.
